A ‘secret’ code

Is the Bible written in a ‘secret code’? It’s certainly not a book for people who do not understand spirituality because the entire book was written as part of a letter by God for His people. In a type of ‘code’ that only people who look at it from a spiritual perspective will understand. The Israelites have read the Old Testament for many years before Christ as their guide and book of life. It only became known as the Old Testament when the New Testament was written after Jesus came to fulfill all the prophesies of the Old Testament.

Spirituality is exactly what the word says: The spiritual part of us. Many people think it’s hocus-pocus because they confuse it with spiritism which is something completely different. That is what one sees in horror movies when bad spirits and humans interact. It’s better to stay away from that as it can pull you into a very dark world. You need to pray to be released from it, if it does.

The spirituality I am speaking about is the third part of every human as we all consist of body, mind AND spirit. These three parts are interconnected but in a scientific orientated world the spirit is not spoken about. Some refer to it as the meta-physical part of us. Just as our physical body needs food to survive, the mind needs food to grow and the spirit too. If we don’t  “feed” the three of them on a regular basis we will not be able to live a fulfilled life. We will misunderstand our longing and desires to be physical and will try to fill them with physical things but in fact they are only filled by spiritual things. Overeating and drinking and smoking and indulging in worldly stuff is not fulfilling our desires. Only the Holy Spirit can do that. 

“Man shall not live by bread alone” are words most people know. These were words Jesus said after miraculously feeding 5000 people with two loaves of bread and 5 fish. He often conducted miracles in people during his time on earth and if we open our “spiritual eyes” we still see miracles in our lives every day.

How do we gain spirituality if we do not have it? The only way is to be quiet and to ask Jesus to fill our “heart” (which is where the spirit is referred to, to be), with His spirit. This is an act of God, but we need to be open for His guidance. We need to forget our own desires and turn our desires to be filled  by His Spirit. The ‘fruits’ of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, mercy, faith, softhearted ness and purity. The physical world  cannot give this to us. Only God and His Holy Spirit can. It’s like a fire He ignites in us.

If we lost our spirituality that we had as children it can be re-ignited by Him if we are willing to be His children again. In spiritual  language it is called baptism. In churches we call the day when parents bring their children to God or when the adult walks to the altar to become a child of God, baptism. There He fills our hearts with His spirit. It says in the Bible “whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life”. Our souls will live on after death, in union with Him. 

It’s not by our doing that we receive the gift of spirituality but after Jesus ignited the desire in our hearts we need to continue to grow by learning more about Jesus and this is where the Bible gives us so much to learn. 

If we keep the Bible close to our hearts and read the Words every day He will nurture our souls and our spirit will grow closer to Him so we can understand many things better and receive the fruits of the spirit to be good people and live for others.

Let’s pray: Jesus our hearts are open for you. Forgive us our self-centeredness and fill us with your Holy Spirit. Help us to grow to understand you better because our minds want to analyze everything in a physical way whilst we are only learning about you if we have a spiritual perspectives. Thank you for the Words of the Bible you have given to us and by which we can be close to you and your will for us.” In Jesus name we pray.
