An instrument for God
We are made to be instruments for God. Each one with his own sound and function. If one thinks of music instruments they have many different sounds and sizes. They range from high pitch to deep bass. Some have multiple strings like the piano or harp or multiple pipes like the pipe organ. Some are a simpler one pipe instrument like the flute.
The sounds are unique to the instruments. They were made with a specific goal in mind. A flute could be played anywhere and could be used in and outside the house. If it plays the high notes travel far and touch the hearts of people wherever they are heard.
The guitar is also a transportable instrument and can be used as a solo classic music instrument or it can accompany other instruments with its deep and full sounds. It often brings in an atmosphere of joy and celebration.
The variety of music instruments is astounding but one thing they all have in common is that they cannot play themselves. They need a musician to play them.
Like the instruments of an orchestra we are instruments that can all be played as solos or we can be played together to create beautiful music.
God says in his word that we are His instruments. If we open our hearts and allow God to use us for the specific aim he build us we will be living the reason for our life here on earth. No one else knows our purpose better than He does. When God plays through us, the most beautiful encouraging melodies are heard through us. The melodies can change the world from depressed to hopeful. From anxious to peaceful. From chaos to order.
This is where many people are lost. They allow the devil to play them or they even try to ‘blow their own trumpet’. Thus ending up lost like walking in the desert without an aim or goal for their lives.
It’s up to God to pick up the Instrument that he wants to use but we can pray that he will use us to His glory and to the encouragement our fellow human beings.
Let’s pray the prayer of St Franz from Assisi;
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen
This is the day that the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in him. Ps118:21.
If we let Him use us to play His melody through us, it can only be a beautiful day!
