Mother Earth is pining

Last week millions of people were watching the Perseverance rover landing on Mars to search for water or features and rocks that could indicate life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYQwuYZbA6o

It was a wonderful experience to follow the NASA report on how the spaceship entered the Mars atmosphere, how the capsule was released and a parachute popped up and how the rover landed safely on the red sandy and dusty surface of Mars.

The most amazing and mind-blowing information for me was that Mars is 229 million miles away from earth and that it took 8 months for the spacecraft to reach Mars.  Also that it takes about 11 minutes for sound waves to travel from Mars to Earth by following a satellite to satellite path. It's astonishing to know that we are so far apart but that communication waves travel so fast that we can hear the message only 11 minutes later.

In spite of all the wonder, the thoughts that were flying through my mind included: Why are we exploring other planets and don't take care of mother earth first? Why does humankind continue to destroy it’s earth and then need to leave to find another world” to destroy? Why not use the amazing intelligence to rather find ways to conserve our mother?

These are all somber thoughts but I am concerned about our earth.  We need to ensure that our earth flourishes whilst we explore space. Why can’t we do both?

God said that we should take care of his creation. This is the time to plan the future of our earth. The United Nations is one forum for this conversation but we all need to think about standing up and stopping the pollution of the earth. Planting trees, ensuring sure that waste is organized, cleaning the ocean, cleaning the rivers, cleaning the air. Also ensuring sustainable water resources and alternative energy. Another idea would be to involve the NASA team to reverse the earth's complex problems and to find solutions for a sustainable future. Maybe we should all leave and give our mother earth a holiday.

With the Covid-19 lockdowns, mother nature thanked us. The air was blue again. The dolphins came closer to the coast. Even the climate got a break. WOuld it be possible to do a lockdown time every year? Let plan it into our business calendars and holiday plans. Maybe one week in summer and one week in winter, could clear the sky for a while. Shut down all industry and traffic. No CO-2 emissions by technology.

Solar power, wind and hydropower need to take over. What concept are they using to power the rover? It loads at night and works during the day. Couldn't we have the same systems?

What are your thoughts about this and where should we start to take care of our own blue planet before it ends up looking like a Mars landscape.
